Big Brother

My favorite television reality show is Big Brother. I am amazed at what people with go through in order to win money. They go into this experience "hoping" to be the last man standing and go home with the money. But there is no guarantee that they will go home with anything more than the experience itself.
Just watching all the different personalities that come into the house and how they handle the different situations that they are put into, all with no contact from their daily life or their family. It would be hard enough to live in this type of situation, but everyone relies on the support of at least one close family member.
Not only are they put through competitions to receive a private room for a week, they are forced to choose who they want to send home “without the money”. Watching them look at different people and decide who they want to align themselves with, can be much like the real world. Today’s society is all about picking and choosing the right people that will ensure you can move forward in your career. Without these choices, you will never be able to move up the corporate ladder or advance your career in the direction you have chosen.
Understanding these goals will help you make the best possible choices for your career, and by understanding what Popular Culture is all about is a great start to your career.

  1. Carolyn,

I'm with you in that I am amazed at what people will do to win money. I am not a big reality tv person but I did watch Flava Fave and New York a few times at the suggestion of my daughter. The shows were hilarious at times but I was impressed at the competitive nature that exists with the people that participate on these shows. You also brought up an important point when you spoke about making choices. In real life we do want to align ourselves with the right mate, the right school, and the right job. We base our selections on what we feel is going to help us "win" in life.

    Thank you

  2. Carolyn,

I have a thing for Big Brother, I haven't watched this season but in the past I have and loved it. It creates leadership skills and strategic problem solving skills. I think that this show, like other reality TV shows, has a purpose even if it can not be seen right away. Reality TV is a part of popular culture.
